    Frequently Asked Questions

    • Do I need qualifications to work in adult social care?

You don’t need formal qualifications to start, what matters most are personal qualities. Great care professionals are compassionate, patient, and good listeners. They respect others, work well in a team and have a genuine desire to make a positive difference in people’s lives. If you have these qualities then why not look at our current vacancies, we would love to hear from you.

    • Is care work still low paid?

Not anymore! While care roles were historically linked to lower pay, things have changed. Today, most positions start at or above the National Living Wage and many employers offer higher rates, bonuses and career progression opportunities. Plus, as you gain experience and qualifications, your earning potential grows. Care is a career with real rewards both financial and personal.

    • Do I need a driving licence?

Not always. Many care roles don’t require you to drive, especially if you’re working in a residential setting. However, if the role involves visiting people in their own homes or working in the community, having a driving licence can be important. Always check the job description, if driving is an essential, we will always clearly state this.

    • Does unpaid experience count when applying?

Yes, it absolutely does! Caring for a family member or friend shows you have the compassion and commitment that make a great care professional. Paid experience isn’t essential for all positions, what matters most is having the right values and your willingness to learn.

    • Do I gain qualifications while working?

Absolutely! You can earn while you learn. From the first day you will receive training to help you feel confident in your role. As you move forward, you’ll have opportunities to gain recognised qualifications and develop new skills, this is all while making a real difference every day.

Please note opportunities for training and qualifications may vary depending on your employer, but most care providers offer strong support for your development.

    • What is the Care Certificate?

The Care Certificate is a set of standards that all health and social care workers should follow in their daily work. It was introduced to make sure everyone starting in care has the same essential skills, knowledge and understanding to provide safe, compassionate care. It covers areas like communication, privacy and dignity, safeguarding, and basic health and safety.

Most employers will support you to complete the Care Certificate during your induction as it’s designed for anyone who is new to the sector and helps you feel more confident in your role.
