Sue Waldron from Bury Care Academy recently delivered another impactful myth-busting session, this time at the B2W Group. Working directly with job seekers exploring career options in care, alongside their employment advisors, Sue provided attendees with the accurate, up-to-date information they need to make informed decisions about careers in the care sector.
What makes sessions like these particularly valuable is the presence of employment advisors in the room. By equipping these advisors with factual information about care careers, we're creating a ripple effect that reaches job seekers across the borough long after the session ends.

This collaboration between Bury Care Academy and Bury Adult Learning Service demonstrates how partnerships between training providers and sector leaders can create clear, accessible pathways into rewarding careers in health and social care. By working together, we're able to provide comprehensive support to individuals considering a career change or entering the workforce.
‘Sue made an excellent point during the session: we can train people on all the technical aspects, using equipment, following medication protocols, but genuine compassion can't be taught. It's an inherent quality. This is exactly the kind of honest conversation our learners need to hear when considering care careers’.
The "Introduction to a Career in Care Level 1" program is designed to give participants a well-rounded introduction to the care sector, combining classroom learning with real-world experiences and expert guidance. Our myth-busting session is just one component of this comprehensive approach to workforce development.
During the session, Sue addressed several common myths about care work, including misconceptions about pay, career progression, qualifications required, and the nature of the work itself. Attendees learned about:
The various pathways into care work, from entry-level positions through to advanced qualifications, and how Bury Care Academy supports learners at every stage.
The diverse roles available within the care sector and the opportunities for advancement, specialization, and professional development.
What a typical day looks like, the challenges and rewards, and the essential skills that make someone successful in a care role.
The resources, training, and ongoing support that care workers receive throughout their careers.
See what exciting things we got up to!
We're incredibly grateful to Nicola Naylor and the entire team at Bury Adult Learning Service for giving us the opportunity to contribute to this vital workforce development program. Partnerships like these are essential for creating sustainable pathways into the care sector and ensuring that Bury continues to have a skilled, compassionate workforce ready to serve our community.
