Supporting Care Providers Through Advisor Education

Sue Waldron from Bury Care Academy recently hosted a myth-busting session at Ingeus with a clear mission: to support local care providers with recruitment by ensuring employment advisors have an accurate, comprehensive understanding of the care sector.

Many people have misconceptions about working in social care, and these misconceptions often stem from a limited understanding of just how diverse the sector really is. By equipping advisors with the full picture, we're creating better outcomes for everyone - candidates find roles that truly match their skills and interests, and care providers gain access to a wider pool of well-matched candidates.

    Our Mission:

    • Make recruitment in care easier for everyone

    • Provide free recruitment support to care providers

    • Offer candidate matching services

    • Deliver comprehensive training programs

    • Build sustainable talent pipelines

Beyond Personal Care: The Full Spectrum of Roles

One of the most significant revelations from the session was the sheer diversity of roles within the care sector. When most people think of "working in care," they imagine only hands-on personal care roles. However, the reality is far more expansive.

‘I had no idea how many different roles exist within care. It's not just personal care, there are kitchen jobs, support roles...’
    —    Scott Richards, Employer Account Manager, Ingeus

Scott's feedback perfectly captures the moment advisors began to see beyond common misconceptions. Social care encompasses an incredible range of positions including hospitality roles, kitchen staff, administrative support, maintenance, activities coordinators, domestic services, reception, IT support, and countless other specialisms.

When advisors understand this full spectrum of opportunities, they can better match candidates to positions that genuinely align with their skills, experience, and career aspirations. A candidate who loves cooking might be perfect for a kitchen role in a care home. Someone with administrative experience could thrive in a care coordinator position. This broader perspective opens doors for both candidates and employers.

Creating Better Matches, Building Stronger Teams

The impact of this educational approach extends far beyond the advisors in the room. When employment advisors have accurate, comprehensive information about care careers, they become powerful advocates for the sector. They can confidently discuss opportunities with their clients, address concerns with factual information, and help candidates see themselves in roles they might never have considered.

For care providers, this means receiving referrals from candidates who truly understand what the role involves, have realistic expectations, and are genuinely interested in the opportunity. This leads to better retention, more satisfied employees, and ultimately, better care for residents and service users.

     Partnership Approach to Workforce Development

Sessions like these are central to our partnership approach with employment services like Ingeus. We're not just filling vacancies - we're building a strong, sustainable pipeline of candidates who are informed, prepared, and well-matched to the opportunities available in care.
